I asked 50 Redskins fans to name their current favorite Redskin. So which player got the most votes?

A few days ago, I was doing something. Then, I started to not care about what I was doing, and elected to think about the Redskins instead (this happens all the time, by the way). And in doing so, I came up with this intriguing question: Who is THE Redskin player fans like the most on the current roster? Read More

Insight, truth, humor and a borderline obsession: Finding out about the man behind the famous Burgundy Blog

When asked if writing about the Redskins on the internet was his main occupation the man behind the Burgundy Blog, responded, “If BB was my main occupation, my kids would be hungry.”

That kind of blunt honesty mixed with subtle humor is the exact style that has allowed the Burgundy Blogger and his site to accrue such a devout following amongst the Washington Redskins fan base over the past half decade. Started in 2010 under the name “Brooding Burgundy” simply as an outlet to talk about the team and the sport he is “fixated on,” the man behind the blog has elevated his brand and himself as a go-to place for everything related to the burgundy and gold.

“On This Play in DC Sports History”: Looking back at the infamous “Swinging Gate” play

Welcome to the second edition of my recurring series “On This Play in DC Sports History.” In this series, I will take a look back at some of the most memorable moments in recent Redskins, Wizards, and Nationals history. These plays can either be in our minds forever because of positive reasons (they were clutch, they came in the biggest games, or they were simply incredible to watch) or for negative reasons (they were embarrassing, they came at the worst times, or they were simply incredibly stupid); as long as it’s a defining play for DC sports teams and fans, there’s a chance I’ll cover it in the series.

Today’s edition, unfortunately, will focus on a play that falls in the latter category, and is one of the most mind boggling things I’ve ever witnessed the Redskins do on a football field (which is obviously a pretty significant statement). I’m of course talking about the infamous “Swinging Gate” play. Read More

Trust me on this one: Why Redskins fans should be REALLY excited about the signing of Jeron Johnson

On Monday, the Redskins signed former Seahawks safety Jeron Johnson to a two-year deal worth around $3.5 million, as new GM Scot McCloughan continues to bring in new players to try and improve the defense.

Now, I get that picking up a career backup and special teamer (and inking him to a small contract like the one he agreed to) isn’t going to make a lot of noise around the league or worry a lot of teams. However, Johnson is the exact type of player I’ve been wanting the Redskins to land more often, and I just have a feeling that we’ll look back on this move and call it one of the smartest pickups by the burgundy and gold in the last ten years. That’s how good I feel about Scot McCloughan’s most recent free agent acquisition.

Let me tell you why. Read More

IT’S ABOUT THAT TIME: The 11 things that all Redskins fans need to survive NFL free agency

Well guys, it’s finally here.

In just a few short hours, NFL free agency is going to commence. And while a lot of the drama surrounding the top names has been mitigated thanks to contract announcements being leaked on Twitter, ESPN, and umpteen other news outlets, one team has been, for the most part, conspicuously absent from the reports: the usually very active Washington Redskins.

Many of the market’s biggest names, like Ndamukong Suh, Byron Maxwell, and Devin McCourty (just to name a few) have already agreed to deals, but to the surprise of many fans and analysts, none are heading to DC. Personally, I’m absolutely ecstatic that the Skins let the initial wave of free agency pass through without making any splashy signings, as it shows a change in philosophy. However, with that being said, they’re a team with a lot of holes, and I’m sure they’re anxious to start filling those holes when 4 p.m. comes around.

Therefore, with all signs pointing to the fact that lot of new players are headed their way, it’s time for fans of the burgundy and gold to get ready for a hectic next couple of days. And I’m here to help them do that.  Read More

25 possible reasons explaining why the Redskins Punt, Pass, and Kick kid didn’t make it to the finals

Last night, during a break in the Panthers-Seahawks game, the Fox broadcasters mentioned how the championships of the NFL’s annual Punt, Pass, and Kick competition were being held in Seattle over this weekend, too.

They then talked about how the Punt, Pass, and Kick competition is a fun contest between kids of all ages, where competitors all around the country see who can punt, kick, and throw a football the furthest by advancing through local and state competitions until they make it to the finals.

Finally, the camera panned to the kids on the field and moved down a line of happy ankle biters, all of whom were wearing the NFL jersey of the team from the area that they were from, that had made it to the competition’s final stage.

It was then that I noticed something: there wasn’t a kid in a Redskins jersey. Read More
